Restoring dignity: Supporting girls in need this Women’s Month

In celebration of Women's Month, STBB has initiated a nationwide sanitary pad collection drive as part of their community service efforts. Known as STBB4Good, this campaign aims to empower girls in need and combat period poverty by addressing the lack of affordable menstrual products, proper sanitation facilities, and health education.

Period poverty, a prevalent issue affecting hundreds of thousands of schoolgirls in South Africa, impacts education and future opportunities for many girls. Missing school due to menstruation results in academic setbacks for around a third of girls in South Africa. To combat this, STBB has set a goal to collect 1 800 packs of sanitary pads for three months.

Collection bins will be placed in the reception areas of all 13 STBB offices across South Africa in August, allowing people to contribute to the cause. Every donation will help ensure girls can attend school regularly, participate confidently, and receive essential menstrual products. Beyond meeting an immediate need, this initiative aims to raise awareness about period poverty and inspire collective action to create lasting social impact.

STBB will distribute all collected sanitary pads to selected schools in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape through their partnership with uPhawu Community Development. By participating in this initiative, individuals can help remove a socio-economic barrier that prevents girls from reaching their full potential by providing them with dignity, restored confidence, and the opportunity to stay in the classroom. For more information about the campaign, contact STBB's team.
