Oil prices hit three-week high on Middle East supply concerns

A US Navy aircraft carrier, USS George Washington, has entered the Middle East as concerns rise over the USS Abraham Lincoln. The George Washington will likely replace the Lincoln on an extended deployment. Reports have surfaced regarding mental health issues and supply challenges aboard the Lincoln, which currently houses approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines.

The George Washington, leading a carrier strike group, arrived on Wednesday in the Middle East as part of a planned deployment. The strike group is commanded by the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington, which is the Navy's only carrier permanently deployed to Japan. The George Washington's departure from Japan has left the Navy without a carrier in the Western Pacific, despite efforts to counter China's military presence in the region.

Concerns about the Lincoln's living conditions and crew well-being have emerged, with some sailors reportedly attempting to go overboard. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has criticized media coverage of the Lincoln, calling it "shameless" and "reckless." President Donald Trump dismissed the reported issues, stating that the Lincoln would be replaced by another similar ship.

The US and Iran have not engaged in military action in recent weeks, but American forces are still enforcing a naval blockade on maritime traffic in and out of Iranian ports as talks between Washington and Tehran remain stalled.
