Ndume urges military to intensify efforts to rescue abducted Borno children

Senator Mohammed Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on the Nigerian military to boost efforts in rescuing abducted schoolchildren and residents from southern Borno. During a visit to the Theatre Command, North-East Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai headquarters in Maiduguri, Ndume highlighted the plight of pupils abducted from Mussa and Lassa in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, as well as passengers kidnapped along the Buratai axis and victims still held captive in Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area.

Some of the victims have endured more than 100 days in captivity, causing immense distress to their families and communities. Ndume emphasized the importance of intensified rescue operations, acknowledging the military's ongoing efforts but urging for increased action due to the families' anxiety and the prolonged separation from their loved ones.

He praised the military's anti-insurgency operations and inter-agency coordination but reminded them of his constituents' concerns, stating it was his duty to advocate for their welfare. The Theatre Commander, Major General Abubakar Abdulsalam, assured Ndume of the military's commitment to ongoing operations aimed at protecting communities, stabilizing affected areas, and ensuring the safe return of displaced residents.
