Man held for bashing kitten with broom
Police say the suspect claimed he hit the kitten because it had crawled under the bonnet of his vehicle.
Batu Gajah authorities have apprehended an individual following the circulation of a video online depicting him striking a kitten multiple times with an aluminum broom handle in a residential area near Bandar Tasik Idaman. Batu Gajah police chief Noor Aehawan Mohammad revealed that the suspect voluntarily surrendered himself at the district police station, as reported by Harian Metro.
He explained that the man justified his actions by stating that the kitten had crawled under the hood of his parked vehicle, fearing potential harm or damage from engine start-up or movement. The kitten was rescued by a neighbor and transported to a veterinary clinic for treatment. Police are currently awaiting a veterinary assessment to proceed with investigations under relevant provisions of the Penal Code and the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
Netizens have also called for disciplinary action against the suspect's employer, based on the uniform observed in the video.
