Lagos revives monthly cadet table tennis tourney

The Lagos State Table Tennis Association has reinstated its monthly cadet tournament, with the competition commencing on August 23 at the Lagos Country Club in Ikeja. The revival aims to identify and cultivate young table tennis talents in the state by offering them consistent competition and opportunities to enhance their skills.

LSTTA Chairman Tunji Lawal emphasized that regular competition is crucial for the growth of young players, as it aids in developing their potential and equipping them with essential competitive skills from an early age. Examples of successful players who progressed through similar programs include Matthew Kuti, Muiz Adegoke, and Sultan Agunbiade.

The tournament not only offers players a chance to gain valuable experience but also allows coaches to evaluate their performance under pressure, fostering a sense of healthy competition, discipline, and dedication among the cadets. Outstanding performers will receive increased support from the association and may be considered for selection to Lagos State teams.

Lawal highlighted that the program's long-term goal is to establish a sustainable pathway for table tennis development in Lagos and Nigeria, emphasizing that the tournament is about discovering tomorrow's champions.
