Kumasi: 11 rooms burnt as fire destroys 3-storey building at Manhyia South

A fire recently decimated a three-storey building located in Manhyia South, Kumasi, destroying 11 out of 44 rooms. The incident took place in the afternoon of Thursday, August 20, 2026, close to the Manhyia Government Hospital. The Ashanti Regional Deputy Fire Commander, ACFO2 Amos Aban, informed the public that the Regional Control Room had received an emergency call at 12:23 p.m., prompting the dispatch of two fire engines from Asokore Mampong and the KNUST Campus.

Firefighters arrived at the location and managed to bring the fire under control around 1:40 p.m., averting any further spread. The fire service reported that 11 rooms were entirely damaged, whereas 33 rooms were spared. The origin of the fire remains under investigation, although preliminary reports suggest a possible gas-related incident.

Alhaji Alahaji, the NADMO Officer at Manhyia South, has appealed to individuals, organizations, and other benevolent groups to assist the affected residents. NADMO is actively working to provide aid to those impacted by the fire. The full extent of the damage and the immediate requirements of the affected residents are set to be determined as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
