Jammu-Srinagar to get third Vande Bharat train via Udhampur: Union Minister

Indian Railways plans to launch a third Vande Bharat train between Jammu and Srinagar via Udhampur, according to Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh. The new service will operate as Train number 26407/26408 and is expected to provide passengers with additional travel options and increase train capacity. Currently, two Vande Bharat trains, numbered 26401/26402 and 26404, run between Jammu and Srinagar, with both services initially launched on June 6, 2025.

The launch of the third train comes in response to strong demand, as the occupancy rates for the existing trains have been full since their introduction. The new Vande Bharat Express will make a stop at Udhampur, a city that has been requested by locals and the Railway Ministry. The journey from Jammu Tawi to Srinagar via Udhampur is expected to take around 4 hours and 45 minutes, covering a distance of 269 km.
