Immigration suspends driver after fatal Maju Junction crash that killed three pedestrians

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has suspended the duties of its lorry driver following a fatal accident at Maju Junction traffic lights, which claimed the lives of three pedestrians and seriously injured another. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban announced the suspension, stating that it would allow authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The driver was operating an empty lorry that was en route to Chow Kit for an illegal immigrant operation when the accident occurred around 1am yesterday. The official duty vehicle, a 'Black Maria,' collided with a Proton Saga when the red light was ignored, causing it to skid and strike a pedestrian and an Inokom Matrix car. JIM is also carrying out an internal investigation to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP). The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
