Gelato, l’Italia corre più di tutti in Europa. Export vicino al sorpasso sulla Francia

Italy leads Europe in gelato production growth, with a 10% increase from 2024 to 2025, according to data from Eurostat. This growth puts Italy at 549 million liters, just behind Germany's 608 million liters. France follows with 525 million liters, while Spain and Belgium produce 457 million and 274 million liters, respectively.

The overall EU gelato production reached 3.44 billion liters in 2025, up 1.9% from 2024. Germany and Italy are followed by France (525 million liters, a 4% increase), Spain (457 million liters, a 2% increase), and Belgium (274 million liters, a 6% increase).

Despite Italy's strong domestic growth, the gap between Italy and France has narrowed to just 24 million liters. At the current growth rate, Italy could overtake France as the second-largest producer by 2026. Italy's export sector has also shown significant growth, exporting 55.2 million kg of gelato to non-EU countries in 2025, a 30% increase from the previous year. This accounts for 19% of the EU's total exports, compared to 42.6 million kg in 2024.

France remains the top EU exporter with 59.1 million kg, but the gap with Italy has narrowed to less than 4 million kg. The combined EU exports to third countries were 289.8 million kg in 2025, a 10% increase from 2024. Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands were the next largest exporters with 34.5 million, 29.9 million, and 26.5 million kg, respectively.
