Gachagua demands security assurance from IG Kanja ahead of his Emurua Dikirr rally

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has penned a letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, expressing apprehension over his personal safety during an upcoming rally in Emurua Dikirr Constituency on August 21, 2026. Gachagua, representing the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), invited supporters and leaders to the event, noting he would attend as an honored guest.

He urged Kanja to guarantee the safety of DCP followers, community members, and himself during the gathering. The former Deputy President requested confirmation that the police are fully informed of his visit and have implemented security plans to protect life and property. Gachagua's concerns stem from his ongoing criticism of the National Police Service's handling of political events and his own safety.

He previously visited Kanja's office in January to present evidence of 24 attacks against him, alleging insufficient action taken by authorities. Gachagua accused the police of being influenced by "goons and civilians" and questioned Kanja's competence. He invoked his constitutional rights to freely enter Kenya and enjoy guaranteed freedoms.

Gachagua warned that the potential violence in Emurua Dikirr could surpass the chaos seen in Homa Bay recently, and implicated Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo in alleged efforts to disrupt his visit. He emphasized that the planned rally could lead to violence akin to the Homa Bay incident, urging Kanja to prioritize safety.
