Five arrested as Johor police open three probes into reversed state and Malaysian flags

Johor police have initiated three investigations into incidents involving the improper display of the Johor state flag and the Malaysian national flag, Jalur Gemilang, with five people arrested to assist in the investigations. The cases are being examined under the jurisdictions of the Kulai, Iskandar Puteri, and Johor Bahru Selatan district police headquarters.

Deputy Police Chief Datuk Seri Hoo Chuan Huat announced that the three investigation papers are being prepared before being referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions.

The individuals arrested are all employees of the premises where the incidents occurred. In Kulai, a 34-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were detained, while Johor Bahru Selatan police arrested two men aged 25 and 43. In Iskandar Puteri, a 56-year-old man was detained. Hoo urged business owners, premises supervisors, and individuals responsible for flag display to ensure proper supervision after installation, as the incidents often involve foreign workers who may not be familiar with the correct procedures.

The improper display of national flags has been a source of public attention in Johor, with a factory in Indahpura Industrial Area temporarily closed after the viral incident involving the Johor flag and Jalur Gemilang. Additionally, another case emerged at the SILC Industrial Area in Iskandar Puteri, where the Johor flag and Jalur Gemilang were found upside down. These recent investigations highlight the importance of responsible flag display by premises owners and supervisors.
