Ex-Zambian minister killed during security raid – Police

Zambian police have confirmed the death of Mutotwe Kafwaya, a former minister, during a security raid on a property linked to opposition leader Brian Mundubile. The raid took place in Lusaka on Friday, the day after Zambia's presidential election. According to the police, Kafwaya was fatally wounded during an exchange of fire between law enforcement officers and unknown individuals.

The police described the incident as an encounter with gunfire and resistance from unidentified individuals. Kafwaya was later identified by members of his family. The 11 people arrested during the raid were accused by authorities of involvement in insurgency and militia activity. Mundubile, who has gone into hiding, rejected these allegations as "total fabrications" and stated he had not been informed of Kafwaya's whereabouts.

The opposition leader has planned to challenge the election results in court, alleging irregularities in the electoral process. The UN human rights chief and the EU election observation mission have expressed concerns over the tight security situation following the election.
