Egypt lands $US168 mln in export contracts with China

On August 19, 2026, Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade announced the signing of 17 export contracts worth an estimated $US 168 million at the "Export to China" event. Organized in collaboration with China’s Ministry of Commerce, the event saw participation from 16 Chinese importing companies and around 40 representatives from Egypt’s export sector. The deals encompass the export of flax, textile yarn, leather, copper, aluminum, sugar cane, and oranges to China.

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh emphasized the ministry's efforts to open new markets for Egyptian products, expand its exporter base, and capitalize on priority markets like China. The minister stressed the importance of transitioning from product promotion to establishing sustainable relationships between Egyptian exporters and international buyers.

ECS First Undersecretary Abdul Aziz el-Sherif highlighted the success of bilateral meetings between Egyptian and Chinese companies in securing the contracts. He encouraged Egypt to take advantage of a Chinese initiative to exempt exports from African countries from customs duties, effective May 1, 2026. This initiative presents an opportunity for Egypt to increase and diversify its exports while strengthening the competitiveness of its national products in the Chinese market.

The Egyptian Commercial Service will continue monitoring contract implementation and coordinating with the Chinese side to create more opportunities for Egyptian businesses. The ECS offices in Beijing and Shanghai will play a crucial role in expanding the presence of Egyptian products in the Chinese market.
