Defense Ministry updates its first aid kits for military personnel based on combat experience

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced an update to its medical recommendations for military personnel based on the experience of intense combat operations.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has updated its medical recommendations for military personnel following intense combat operations, according to a recent announcement. A team of experts evaluated over 30 models of first aid kits, both Ukrainian and foreign-made, to determine the four most suitable options. Director of the Healthcare Department, Dmytro Samofalov, emphasized that every second matters when a soldier is wounded; the ease of accessing necessary equipment in the first aid kit can be the difference between life and death.

The selected models were tested for ergonomics, speed of retrieval, ambidexterity, and interior organization. The new pouch models include four different designs, each with established temporary requirements for technical and quality characteristics. A one-year trial phase will follow, with frontline service members testing the new pouches in real combat conditions to provide feedback and make necessary adjustments.

After collecting feedback and finalizing specifications, official technical standards will be developed for a large-scale centralized bidding process through the ProZorro system. No single manufacturer will have exclusive rights or a monopoly on supplying the new first aid pouches. Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers will be able to produce their models according to the published specifications and compete in open bidding based on the lowest price.

Previously, the Ministry of Defense provided detailed information about the contents of a serviceman's individual first aid kit, which is mandatory equipment for every defender.
