Congo to receive 70,000 doses of Ervebo Ebola vaccine which has been effective in past outbreaks

Congo is set to receive 70,000 doses of the Ervebo Ebola vaccine, according to a statement from the World Health Organization and partners. This vaccine, proven effective in previous Ebola outbreaks, is seen as a significant advancement in the fight against the world's fastest Ebola outbreak. The allocation includes 20,000 doses for a Phase 3 clinical trial to assess the vaccine's impact on the Bundibugyo virus, which is causing the current outbreak.

The remaining 50,000 doses will be allocated to frontline and health workers. The outbreak, affecting six provinces in eastern Congo, has resulted in more casualties in a shorter timeframe than any previous Ebola outbreak, spreading at a rate three times faster than the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak.
