Army recovers AK-47 rifles, ammunition in Plateau

Nigerian Army personnel discovered weapons and ammunition during a recent operation in Plateau State's Mangu Local Government Area. This action was part of Operation HARD KNOCK, which was initiated based on intelligence received on August 19, 2026. The intelligence suggested an imminent threat from suspected bandit militias. The Army was alerted to the possibility that the attack might have been related to the theft of cattle, allegedly carried out by youths from the community.

In response to the threat, troops conducted a search operation, employing drones and other surveillance tools to look for missing cattle and potential suspects. However, after a thorough search, no trace of the cattle was found. During the operation, authorities identified Pantong Stanley and other local youths as potential perpetrators. As a result of the raid, one AK-47 rifle, a locally made AK-47 rifle, a locally made revolver rifle, two Dane guns, and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered.

The Nigerian Army, working alongside the police and other security agencies, is continuing its aggressive operations in the region. The aim is to recover the missing cattle, locate additional weapons, and apprehend those responsible for the attacks. The Army is urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The military reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property, as well as maintaining a secure environment for peaceful coexistence in Plateau State and the broader North Central region.
