'We are not responsible for 24-hour markets' - Goosie Tanoh

Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development, Goosie Tanoh, clarified that his organization has no control over the 24-Hour Markets project. Emphasizing that the project falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Tanoh stated, "The 24-Hour Markets Project is not our responsibility.

We are not into development of markets. We have no jurisdictional control over that." He also added that his team has been sued for the demolition of buildings, and his legal team is seeking to have their names removed from the lawsuits. The controversy surrounding the 24-Hour Markets Project is primarily due to the demolition of existing markets and disputes over the land allocated for the new project.

One notable example is the demolition of a building housing the Sekyedumase Rural Bank in Kumasi, which led to a legal threat from the bank's management. Despite the demolition, the bank's customer data and records remained safe due to their network system. However, they are yet to account for around GHC10 million kept in their vault, as the bank is still figuring out the ramifications of the sudden demolition.
