Tiada jaminan kejayaan PRN bererti menang PRU, kata Zahid

Pengerusi Barisan Nasional (BN) Zahid Hamidi urged the coalition to understand the momentum following their victories in PRN Johor and Negeri Sembilan. In a statement, Zahid cautioned that victory in these polls does not guarantee similar results in the upcoming general election (PRU). He pointed out that political parties can no longer assume voters will always remain loyal, as they may choose differently between PRU, PRN, or even PRK based on candidates, government performance, local issues, economic conditions, and the party's ability to offer solutions.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, noted that this sentiment appears most prominent among the younger generation. While some young voters previously did not support BN, they are now returning to the party in many constituencies. However, it cannot be guaranteed that this young voter base will remain a steadfast deposit for any political party.

Therefore, BN should not merely ask the younger generation to understand its past struggles but must provide them with reasons to believe in the future they aim to build. The same applies to Malay voters, who have not fully returned to Umno or BN yet. They may give us another chance, and that trust could be withdrawn if we fail or become complacent.

The same goes for Chinese and Indian voters, reminding the coalition not to hastily assume they have left Pakatan Harapan and returned to the coalition in large numbers. Thus, BN's task after its victories in Johor and Negeri Sembilan is not just to maintain momentum but to understand the momentum at hand. This understanding will help the coalition avoid repeating past mistakes when a larger election comes around.

BN won 48 out of 56 seats in Johor, while the opposition, with PN, secured 25 out of 36 seats in Negeri Sembilan. The Ilham Centre research center previously stated that the "Blue Wave" has the potential to sweep up to 122 parliamentary seats across the Peninsula and bring relevant seats into the BN-Perikatan Nasional bloc leading up to the impending PRU.
