Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the Indian government over the recent introduction of E20 petrol, citing the views of Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran. The Samajwadi Party leader questioned who is responsible for the potential damage to vehicles using the higher ethanol blend. E20, composed of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol, has raised concerns among some motorists about its impact on older vehicles.

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister argued that the government and its adviser hold conflicting positions on the issue, with the government claiming E20 is fine while the adviser warns of potential vehicle damage. Yadav emphasized that the current situation presents a "double-edged sword" for motorists, as the government pushes for a cleaner fuel blend while owners of older vehicles face higher maintenance costs and potential engine issues.

The E20 rollout, introduced as part of efforts to reduce emissions and dependence on crude oil imports, has sparked debate over how the government will address motorists' concerns while maintaining its stance on the fuel's safety.
