Punjab Announces Location for Kite String Production for Basant 2027

The Punjab government has announced its choice for producing kite string in Lahore for the 2027 Basant festival, selecting Jallo Park in the city. All kite-string manufacturers will be mandated to adhere to government-approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the production process. Authorities plan to implement measures to regulate the prices of kites and string during the festival.

The production of kite string is anticipated to commence in October 2027 at the designated area. This decision comes as the province prepares for the upcoming Basant event following a ban on the traditional celebration. The Punjab government has introduced stringent safety regulations to avert injuries and fatalities connected to hazardous kite string.

The government has already issued safety guidelines for Basant 2027, including limitations on kite flying from hazardous rooftops, preventing overcrowding, and prohibiting the use of loud sound systems. Parents and guardians have been instructed to monitor children during the festivities, and first-aid facilities must be available at permitted kite-flying locations.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz confirmed that Basant will return to Lahore in 2027, scheduled to span three days. She expressed her excitement about the event, stating that it would once again fill the city with color, culture, music, and festivities. The government aims to maintain rigorous controls on kite and string manufacturing, sale, and use to guarantee the festival remains secure while upholding the traditional celebration.
