Protest rocks Defence Ministry over pension delay[VIDEO]

On Wednesday, a protest erupted at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja, as military retirees called for overdue pension adjustments. Armed soldiers intervened, preventing the ex-servicemen from demonstrating outside the Defence Ministry. One of the retirees addressed the crowd at the protest site, stating that President Bola Tinubu had approved a salary increase for military and paramilitary personnel in November of the previous year.

However, the implementation of this adjustment has yet to be carried out. The retiree expressed frustration, noting that despite the President's gratitude to the military high command, the pension adjustments were still lacking as of August 2026. He questioned the legitimacy of the system, remarking that after serving for 35 years, the military personnel feel cheated.
