Pakistan Extends Airspace Ban On Indian Aircraft Till September 24 Amid Tense Bilateral Relations

Pakistan has extended its ban on Indian aircraft operating within its airspace until September 24, as announced by the Pakistan Airports Authority through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). The restriction, which also applies to planes operated or leased by Indian airlines, was initially scheduled to end on August 23 but has been renewed.

The ban, set to begin at 10:15 am on August 23, will remain in effect until 4:59 am on September 24. The affected regions include Pakistan's two flight information regions (FIRs): Karachi and Lahore. The extension of airspace restrictions, which have been repeatedly imposed since their initial introduction, adds to operational difficulties for airlines traveling between India and other destinations.

These restrictions force airlines to take longer alternative routes, resulting in increased fuel consumption, higher operating costs, and extended travel times for passengers. The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan have led to reciprocal bans on each other's airlines following the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025.

Pakistan's ban on Indian aircraft and Indian restrictions on Pakistani aircraft and military flights have strained civil aviation and created financial challenges for airlines operating in the region. With neither country having lifted its respective restrictions, airlines continue to face longer routes and increased operational costs.

The latest extension means the ban on Indian aircraft will remain in place for at least another month, unless Pakistan decides to modify or withdraw the measure before its September 24 expiry.
