New Delhi: Former BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla revealed the reasons behind his decision to resign from the party, primarily driven by financial pressures. In an interview with NDTV, Poonawalla expressed that his political role did not exempt him from meeting basic expenses like rent. He cited his landlord's statement, "My landlord does not give me free rent just for being a BJP leader.

My landlord said, brother, you will have to pay rent. I don't have money to pay rent," to underscore the financial reality he faced while working full-time for the party. Poonawalla highlighted that his political involvement had effectively been a 24/7 commitment, leaving him with little time to pursue other professional opportunities or alternative income sources.

He also emphasized that he hails from a middle-class background without inherited wealth or a political family to rely on, making it crucial for him to maintain personal savings and financial stability. Shehzad Poonawalla submitted his resignation to the BJP on July 30, citing personal and financial circumstances. The party leadership had initially requested him to reconsider but no viable alternatives emerged, leading him to proceed with his resignation.
