2027: Tinubu meets Akpabio, Doguwa, others as presidential campaigns begin today

President Bola Tinubu held private consultations with key political figures at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, a day before the 2027 general election campaigns officially began, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Notable attendees included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, Kano State representative Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola.

Doguwa had recently participated in the National Peace Committee peace accord signing in Abuja. Additional attendees included EFCC boss and Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake. The purpose of these meetings was not disclosed as no official statements were made to the press. This activity precedes the start of political campaigns on August 19, 2026, as set by INEC for the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
