London to witness Varanasi-like Ganga Aarti in Sept

The event will take place on September 13th at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, as part of the Totally Thames 2026 programme. Organized by Chinmaya Mission UK and Totally Thames, the ceremony aims to bring the traditional Ganga Aarti to London, a ritual commonly associated with Hindu pilgrimage sites like Varanasi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.

Scheduled from 4 PM to 8 PM, the main ceremony will commence at 7:15 PM, just as the sun sets, creating a serene ambiance on the Thames. The event will feature Indian food, stalls, live music, dance, and family-friendly activities before the main Ganga Aarti begins at the Royal Steps beside the river.

The ceremony will recreate the essence of an Indian riverside tradition, with offerings of lamps, music, and devotional elements. However, unlike Varanasi, the setting will be the historic Thames and the surrounding London skyline. Organizers emphasize that the event is not restricted to Hindus and is free for all visitors, including local residents and international travelers.
