KL police dispose of RM15m in seized drugs to ensure integrity of case exhibits

Kuala Lumpur police today destroyed over RM15 million worth of seized drugs to maintain the integrity of case exhibits, according to Datuk Fadil Marsus, the Kuala Lumpur police chief. The disposal comprised 5,022 case exhibits from 4,884 investigation papers, all from cases that concluded between 2007 and 2025. The drugs destroyed included 544 kilograms of solid substances, such as methamphetamine, ketamine, heroin, cocaine, and cannabis, as well as more than 900 litres of liquid drugs, including ketum liquid.

The drugs were classified under various sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Poisons Act 1952. The open disposal process was aimed at dispelling misconceptions about the handling of large quantities of seized drugs and to demonstrate that established procedures were in place to ensure the integrity of case exhibits. The destruction was carried out using Scheduled Waste-to-Energy technology at an incineration plant in Bukit Pelandok, Negeri Sembilan, and in collaboration with Quality Alam Sdn Bhd, following the Inspector-General of Police's Standing Order (PTKPN) D207.

This method also helped reduce health and safety risks to personnel from prolonged exposure to hazardous chemicals.
