Hainan opens seventh regional sports games in Qionghai center

On August 16, 2026, the 7th Hainan Sports Games commenced at the Qionghai Culture and Sports Center in Qionghai, China. The Games, themed "This Sea Embraces All," marked the inaugural major sporting event since the implementation of island-wide special customs operations at the Hainan Free Trade Port of China. The opening ceremony, led by Feng Fei, Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, and Liu Xiaoming, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and Governor of Hainan Province, showcased the province's development, revolutionary heritage, and the spirit of openness embodied by Boao.

The performance, structured around the Wanquan River, utilized dynamic ground projection technology to integrate Hainan's ecological splendor and its commitment to openness. The narrative encompassed chapters such as "Wanquan River in Pictures," "Hainan Flowers Facing the Sun," "Passion in Motion," "Hainan Acceleration," and "Under the Same Expanse of Blue," all aimed at conveying the unity of sea and sky and the collective heartbeat of the people.

Notably, the Games witnessed extensive public participation, with 14 community contingents and over 10,000 residents engaging in group singing activities prior to the opening ceremony. Additionally, more than 700 performers from 21 community groups participated in the warm-up program, embodying the spirit of "performed by the people, watched by the people, and enjoyed by the people."

More than 4,200 athletes from 18 delegations across Hainan Province were competing in 18 sports comprising 21 disciplines.
