Hulu's limited series Good American Family has been renewed for a second season, expanding its focus to the infamous Lorena Bobbitt case. The anthology-style show, created by Katie Robbins and executive-produced by Ellen Pompeo, will return to the drawing board with the same team behind its inaugural season. Pompeo, however, will not reprise her role from Season 1.
The 1993 incident saw Lorena Bobbitt chop off her husband John's penis while he slept, an action later surgically repaired. Lorena claimed John had abused and sexually assaulted her, leading to her acquittal by reason of insanity. John was separately cleared of marital sexual assault. The Bobbitt case had previously inspired Jordan Peele's 2019 Prime Video docuseries Lorena, which featured interviews with Lorena and John.
Lifetime adapted the story in 2020 with a TV movie starring Dani Montalvo and Luke Humphrey as Lorena and John. Good American Family originally aired in March 2025, dramatizing the real-life story of Natalia Grace, a girl with dwarfism adopted by an American family in 2010. Imogen Faith Reid portrayed Natalia, while Ellen Pompeo and Mark Duplass played her adoptive parents, Kristine and Michael Barnett.
