From Textbooks To Visual Learning: Yogi Govt Brings Videos & Animation To UP Classrooms

Lucknow has seen the Yogi government strive to infuse technology into secondary education, with an objective to render complex subjects more accessible through videos, animations and visual content. In support of this goal, an educational video production workshop was held on Wednesday at the State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET), Uttar Pradesh.

The workshop aimed at merging teachers’ subject mastery with digital tools to craft high-quality content that simplifies intricate concepts, making them engaging and comprehensible for students.

Eighteen lecturers and assistant teachers from various Lucknow division secondary schools were part of the workshop, which ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event was inaugurated by SIET Director Dr. Mukesh Chandra, alongside Additional Director, Vocational Education Surendra Tiwari, and Administrative Officer of the State Institute of Educational Technology Ajit Kumar Singh, as well as other officials.

The Yogi government's initiative seeks to blend teachers’ subject expertise with modern technology to ensure that secondary education, including subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Economics and Mathematics, becomes easier to comprehend. Digital resources like educational videos will give students the chance to delve into challenging subjects at their own pace and in line with their individual understanding level.

During the workshop, experiences garnered from educational videos produced by the Basic and Secondary Education Department during the COVID-19 pandemic were shared. It was highlighted that videos, reels, animation, and bullet points could be effectively utilized within a short span of time to simplify difficult subjects and concepts for students. Following this, the focus was on creating high-quality digital learning content based on subjects and student-level needs.

To create such content, SiET lecturer Kamal Kishore shared guidelines on the structure and production of educational videos. The participants were then briefed on the technicalities of content selection, presentation, and video production. The workshop concluded with SIET Director Dr. Mukesh Chandra outlining the future plans for the integration of technology in secondary education.
