Fake DSS operative nabbed in Abuja

The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a man named Moferewa Maiye, who was found to be posing as a DSS employee. Maiye, who claimed to be from Agbajojun Village in Kogi State's Mopamuro Local Government Area, was tracked down and apprehended by DSS operatives near NITEL Junction along Adetokunbo Ademola Way in Abuja's Wuse II area.

At the time of his capture, Maiye was wearing a DSS tactical uniform and wielding a fake pistol. According to a security source, DSS officers had received credible intelligence indicating that Maiye was using the uniform and weapon to harass commuters and motorists, extorting money from them. During interrogation, Maiye reportedly confessed that his brother, Monday Maiye, had been a DSS officer who had died years ago.

He insisted that the DSS uniform he was wearing was his deceased brother's. The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as authorities investigate how he obtained the DSS uniform and kit. Investigators are also trying to determine how long Maiye had been engaging in impersonation and extortion activities. The arrest highlights the DSS's increasing concern over individuals impersonating security personnel to intimidate members of the public and engage in criminal activities, according to the security source.
