EPL: Man United close in on £60m-plus deal for Brighton’s Baleba

Manchester United is nearing a £60 million-plus deal to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. United attempted to sign the Cameroon international last season but withdrew due to Brighton's hefty valuation of over £100 million. However, Baleba's price has dropped significantly, prompting United to re-approach the midfielder.

After failing to secure Matheus Fernandes earlier this summer, United has decided to pursue Baleba again. Brighton's manager, Fabian Hurzeler, revealed that the transfer negotiation is ongoing, with Manchester United's offer currently below Brighton's valuation. United has already bolstered their midfield by signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer, but still needs a box-to-box midfielder like Baleba.

Despite his reduced valuation, Baleba is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks due to his recent ankle injury. The transfer deadline is approaching, and United's manager, Michael Carrick, hopes to secure Baleba to strengthen and energize their midfield for the upcoming season.
