Cloudera Anywhere Cloud gives AI agents safe, secure access to sensitive data wherever it lives

Big-data firm Cloudera Inc. has unveiled its new Cloudera Anywhere Cloud platform, designed to overcome the hurdles that have hindered businesses from embracing artificial intelligence. The platform is specifically tailored for agentic AI workloads, which are autonomous AI agents that perform tasks on behalf of humans. Cloudera Anywhere Cloud enables organizations to grant their AI agents secure and governed access to their most sensitive data, regardless of where it is stored, whether in the public cloud, on-premises, in a sovereign cloud, or at the network edge.

The launch of Cloudera Anywhere Cloud aims to eliminate the frustrations that have slowed enterprise adoption of AI. While many organizations are eager to operationalize AI agents, they face significant infrastructure challenges. One major issue is the fragmented nature of enterprise data environments, making it difficult to provide AI agents with necessary data access. Additionally, data sovereignty regulations in regions like Europe, basic cybersecurity risks, and slow platform upgrade cycles pose further obstacles.

A recent Cloudera study revealed that 73% of IT leaders attributed infrastructure performance constraints to the hindrance of their AI projects. According to Cloudera, AI data is predominantly processed in the cloud, but feeding vast amounts of sensitive information into proprietary cloud environments presents numerous challenges. These challenges include concerns over data sovereignty, security risks, and the need to avoid slow platform upgrade cycles.

With Cloudera Anywhere Cloud, Cloudera aims to overcome these bottlenecks by offering push-button simplicity and cloud-native agility to corporate data. The platform eliminates the requirement for companies to consolidate their data into a centralized cloud environment, allowing AI agents to access data where it currently resides. This approach ensures adherence to strict data sovereignty regulations and avoids unnecessary security risks.

Cloudera's Chief Product Officer, Leo Brunnick, emphasized that enterprise AI has outgrown the public cloud-only model, stating, "Organizations shouldn't have to choose between innovation and control." Cloudera Anywhere Cloud bridges the gap between speed and flexibility of the cloud and the need for data control and sovereignty.

By transforming data environments into an open marketplace, the platform employs a unified application programming interface and the open-standards Apache Iceberg table format to connect multiple analytics engines to data wherever it resides, without the need for custom integrations.

The platform provides a plain language chatbot that simplifies the process of deploying tools such as Apache Spark, Kafka, or Trino on data. Additionally, Cloudera Anywhere Cloud leverages zero-trust governance to ensure compliance and maintain unbroken data lineage. The platform enables AI to be run on data not stored in the cloud due to regulatory requirements or business operations that necessitate on-premises or co-located data centers, such as high-frequency trading systems in banking and finance or network equipment in telecommunications.
