Benue attack: 22 bodies recovered from Ukum communities — Lawmaker

An incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, where armed herdsmen allegedly attacked several communities in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 individuals. Solomon Wombo, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Logo-Ukum-Katsina Ala Federal Constituency, reported that bodies have been recovered from the Ayaba, Ukpen, Bom, Abaoajio and Yina communities.

Wombo condemned the violence as inhumane, unjustifiable and unacceptable, urging the relevant authorities to locate and arrest those responsible, ensuring they face justice. He also cautioned residents against engaging in retaliatory attacks, stating that such actions would lead to more casualties and perpetuate the cycle of bloodshed.

Wombo expressed his sympathies to the families of the deceased and those injured or displaced by the attack, emphasizing the importance of remaining calm, vigilant and law-abiding.
