Adams admits he misled Madlanga Commission and had received summons

National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams is set to reappear before the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, after a previous hearing was halted due to a malfunctioning parliamentary laptop. Adams claims the device had been unreliable for roughly 18 months, often freezing or needing repairs. However, he asserts he only recently became aware of a notice implicating him before the commission, despite the laptop issues.

During his testimony, Adams will face scrutiny over allegations of mishandling classified crime intelligence documents and providing evidence on his claims of systemic corruption within the criminal justice system. These complaints led to multiple investigations by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac). In September 2023, KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had flagged MPs for "reckless" use of classified information, with Adams being one of them.

Adams opened three criminal cases based on the Crime Intelligence information, which involved sensitive personal details obtained during security clearance vetting processes. He subsequently filed fraud charges, including misrepresenting himself to gain access to Westville Prison in order to secretly interview inmates linked to the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League Secretary Sindiso Magaqa.

Adams is currently on R10 000 bail with strict conditions, facing charges of fraud and defeating the administration of justice. The Western Cape police are also investigating a case of intimidation following Adams' filing of charges against the South African Police Service (SAPS).
