Who is the 2025-26 Taunton Daily Gazette Girls Athlete of the Year?

The 2025-26 Taunton Daily Gazette has announced the Girls Athlete of the Year in the Taunton area. The nominees were chosen for being named the Player/Athlete of the Year in their respective sports. The finalists include Mari Albon from Bristol-Plymouth soccer, Taylor Nascimento from Bristol Aggie cross country, Reese Jefferson from Dighton-Rehoboth field hockey, Genoveva Martins-Furtado from Bristol-Plymouth volleyball, and Camden Strandberg from Bridgewater-Raynham basketball.

Albon, the senior midfielder and captain, led the Craftsmen's potent offense with 12 goals and 8 assists, earning her the MAC Large MVP and a three-year captaincy. Nascimento, a sophomore captain from Bristol Aggie, played a key role in Aggie's second-straight league title with a personal best time of 21:30.7 and features such as her field vision and pass/shot selection.

Jefferson, a senior captain and forward/midfielder from Dighton-Rehoboth, led the team's offense with 24 goals and was voted the Fans' Choice Field Hockey Player of the Year. Martins-Furtado, a senior libero and captain from Bristol-Plymouth, powered the team to a second-straight MAC crown with impressive stats and a reputation for unmatched stick skills.

Finally, Strandberg, a senior forward from Bridgewater-Raynham, led the Trojans with career highs in scoring and contributed significantly to the team's success.
