Torrevieja Expands Local Police Recruitment Drive to 63 Officers

Torrevieja's City Council has significantly expanded its Local Police recruitment drive from 44 to 63 positions, aiming to bolster the force's long-term stability. The council's Civil Service Committee approved this decision on Tuesday, with the additional vacancies spanning 2023 to 2026 municipal employment offers. Of the 63 positions, 45 will be filled through open competition, while 18 are reserved for officers transferring from other police forces under the mobility system.

Councillor María José Ruiz highlighted this as one of the city's most ambitious recruitment campaigns in recent years. Candidates are currently in the final stages of the selection process, having completed practical examinations and awaiting medical assessments before appointment as trainee officers. The council expects the procedure to be completed within the next few months, enabling Torrevieja to commence 2027 with around 180 Local Police officers.

Alongside the recruitment of front-line officers, the council plans to appoint up to 30 senior personnel through separate selection processes. These senior positions include officer, inspector, superintendent, and commissioner ranks, which will strengthen the enlarged force's command structure. The recruitment drive aims to address long-standing staffing requirements and provide a more reliable service throughout the year, particularly as Torrevieja's population swells during peak holiday seasons.

The council praised existing officers for their daily work in protecting residents and visitors, especially during high-traffic periods. The Personnel and Police departments are collaborating on the recruitment program and have indicated potential for additional positions in future municipal employment offers. The ultimate goal is to modernize the force, create a stable staffing structure, and meet Torrevieja's evolving security needs.

Upon successful completion of the latest recruitment and promotion processes, the city anticipates a significantly expanded Local Police force with a reinforced senior command team at the beginning of 2027.
