Tinubu meets EFCC boss, housing minister over disposal of seized houses

President Bola Tinubu met with the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday. They discussed the management and disposal of houses that the EFCC had seized across the country. This meeting marked the first public interaction between Tinubu and Olukoyede since Tinubu overruled the commission's decision to freeze the Osun State Government's accounts just before the governorship election.

The EFCC had obtained a court order freezing Osun's accounts on August 5, 2026, based on allegations of fraudulent handling of funds. The state government contested the freeze in court, demanding N2bn in exemplary damages and accusing the commission of a "witch-hunt." In response to the freeze, Tinubu directed the EFCC to vacate the order, citing embarrassment over the timing of the action, as it occurred just before the election.

Following the election and the withdrawal of the Osun suit by Governor Ademola Adeleke, the meeting took place three days later.
