Temerloh fuel tanker crash: Driver charged with reckless driving causing deaths of mother, child

On August 18, a tanker lorry driver appeared in the Magistrate's Court in Temerloh, pleading not guilty to two charges of reckless driving. The incident resulted in the deaths of Nur Fatima Syuhada Abdullah, 39, and Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal Saifulnizam, 12, on August 14 near KM9 of Jalan Temerloh-Triang. Nor Azlan Mahayudin, the driver, was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which stipulates a minimum sentence of five years' imprisonment and a maximum of 10 years, along with a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000 upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amal Razim Alias represented the prosecution, while Nor Azlan was defended by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Mazieera Sharifudin. The court granted bail for the accused at RM10,000 and set the next court date for October 1. The tragic accident involved a tanker carrying 32,000 litres of fuel crashing into a car, causing the occupants to be burnt to death inside.
