The newly appointed special prosecutor for the Central Election Management Commission (선관위), Law Firm Attorney Itahahn, was officially announced on June 18th. The announcement came after the 6·3 local election irregularity, where an insufficient number of ballots caused a controversy. The prosecutor, who has been working for the 법무법인 since 2023, will handle a total of 12 allegations against the commission, including violating citizens' right to vote, improper foreign trips, and internal mismanagement.

The special investigation team's 170-day operation includes a 20-day preparation phase and a 90-day investigation phase, with the possibility of extending the investigation period twice, each by 30 days. The team will primarily focus on preparing the office and assembling personnel first. Initial investigations will be conducted by the National Security Intelligence Agency's Special Investigation Team, which has already investigated the "violation of national security interests" case at Seoul's Songpa District and issued search warrants to multiple local election offices.

The team will focus on verifying whether election officials and staff intentionally manipulated the number of registered voters to cover up their negligence. The team will also investigate the potential violation of the commission's policy on adjusting incorrect voter counts and the alleged inappropriate foreign trips by commission officials.
