NDC raises alarm over suspected IED planting on Zamfara road

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State has expressed deep concern over the alleged planting of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by suspected bandits on the Gurusu-Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. The NDC warns that this act of terrorism could put thousands of innocent residents and road users at risk of serious harm.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Alkasimu Mustapha Kayatawa, the NDC urges the Federal Government and security agencies to take immediate action to secure the affected area. The party highlights the additional dangers posed to motorists, farmers, traders, commuters, and security personnel who frequently use the road.

They call for enhanced security measures, including increased patrols, improved intelligence gathering, and better capabilities to detect and neutralize explosive threats. The NDC criticizes the lack of security presence compared to the high level of deployment during recent elections, emphasizing that the safety of civilians should be equally prioritized.

They urge the Zamfara State Government to cooperate with federal agencies and strengthen community-based intelligence networks. The NDC stresses that the reported IED incident should serve as a wake-up call for decisive action to protect residents and prevent the roads from becoming makeshift minefields. They demand sustained security operations, community intelligence, and continuous intelligence-led actions to break the cycle of violence and establish lasting peace in the region.
