Srem-Sai reveals surge in death threats after Wontumi conviction

Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai has reported a rise in death threats targeting him, prosecution witnesses, and investigators, following the conviction of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. The threats have escalated since the high-profile trial, with Srem-Sai personally receiving life-threatening messages.

He confirmed receiving death threats himself, as well as threats against the two prominent witnesses and police investigators involved in the prosecution case. Srem-Sai stated that threats have intensified significantly after the Wontumi conviction, with both the witnesses and investigators facing daily death threats. The deputy attorney general emphasized that threats are not limited to a single method and come in various forms.

He also revealed that threats are not exclusive to him, as his attorneys face similar threats in different cases, including murder and armed robbery cases. Judges are also targeted by such threats, which are an unfortunate aspect of their profession. Srem-Sai relies on both physical security measures and his faith to ensure his safety.

Despite the availability of physical protection, he acknowledges its limitations due to the unpredictable nature of human actions. To cope with the pressures, he commits himself to God for inner peace. The two key prosecution witnesses have been granted police protection to safeguard them from potential harm.
