‘Shocking’ video captures orcas close to shore in Washington State

A video posted on social media has captured orcas swimming near the shore in Washington State, causing local residents to be astonished by the close encounter. The footage shows a pair of orcas swimming just off Fox Island, off the coast of Tacoma. Wildlife photographer Stephanie Morris, who has previously documented whales in the area, revealed that this is the most intimate she has ever been to the majestic creatures.

"I think people are having a hard time believing that the video could be real because they're so close to shore, but it's just a really really... the sandspit sticks out really far, but there's a huge drop-off from that sandspit, which allowed them to get close to shore," Morris explained. The video has garnered over five million views on Instagram.
