Seymour looks to build on foundation in second season under Caleb Olive

Seymour Eagles are aiming to build upon their foundation established in their inaugural season under head coach Caleb Olive, according to a recent report. The team finished the 2023 season with a record of 5-5, marking the school's highest number of victories since 2021. Several senior players graduated, yet the squad still boasts a wealth of experienced members, instilling confidence for the upcoming campaign.

Caleb Olive, hired last March, had a condensed offseason to familiarize himself with the team. This year, however, he has had the advantage of a full offseason with the squad, which has enabled the team to fully assimilate his coaching methods. As noted by Seymour senior Corey Helton, "Last year, he came in a little late, and we were kind of just playing catch-up a little bit, trying to get everything put in. This year, it’s definitely been nice to have him back for the full time."

Grayson Davis, another senior, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the strengthened bond between the players and their coach. "It helps a lot," he stated. "We’ve got a special bond with Coach Olive and what he’s doing with us this year. And we’re very excited to have him."

Coach Olive believes the team's experience from last season will be instrumental in helping them manage adversity better this season. "This team seems to be a little tighter," he remarked. "They know we’ve been through adversity. Everybody that’s coming back, we’ve learned how to fight through adversity." Olive is confident that his team will be better prepared for challenges that may arise during the upcoming season, as he believes they are now equipped to handle adversity more effectively.

Seymour Eagles will commence their 2024 season against Gatlinburg-Pittman for the sixth consecutive year. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 21.
