Several wounded as Moscow region hit by drone attack

In the Moscow region, a drone attack left several people wounded and caused damage to buildings and infrastructure, according to Russian officials. The attack involved a swarm of 620 drones that targeted the region overnight, with some reaching as far as the capital city of Moscow. These drones were met by Russian air defenses, which successfully shot down over 180 of them, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on the state-backed MAX platform.

The attack inflicted three casualties, including a 10-year-old girl, as reported by Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov on Telegram. The most significant impact was observed in the Pavlovsky Posad district, where a house was destroyed in the fire. Additionally, a warehouse belonging to the e-commerce giant Wildberries, located east of Moscow, also suffered minor damage from the explosion of a drone.

The attack comes amid the prolonged conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides increasingly relying on long-distance strikes, resulting in the highest civilian death toll since the war's early stages in 2022. Ukraine has targeted multiple Wildberries warehouses in recent weeks, alleging that the company supplies components for Russian drones. EU foreign policy chief is reportedly planning to impose new, far-reaching sanctions against Russia in response to the ongoing aggression.
