Punjab Bans Outdoor Activities in Schools Ahead of Smog Season

The Punjab School Education Department has mandated a ban on outdoor activities for students in schools across the province, as part of a pre-smog action plan aimed at safeguarding pupils from the potential hazards of smog. The directive, which is set to remain in effect until September 2026, mandates that schools take precautionary measures to protect their students.

Schools are required to monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) before permitting students to engage in any outdoor exercise or physical activities. In the event of smog conditions, students must be barred from participating in outdoor sports. Moreover, schools in regions with unhealthy air quality have been advised to refrain from unnecessary travel and visits.

Additionally, schools have been instructed to keep doors and windows shut during smog to minimize students' exposure to polluted air. School administrators have been directed to ensure that the necessary safety measures are implemented to shield students from the adverse effects of smog.
