Police re-arrest eight of 11 suspects who escaped custody in Delta

Delta State Police Command officials have re-arrested eight individuals out of eleven who had previously escaped from lawful custody at an undisclosed facility in the Ughelli area. According to Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, this arrest was part of the force's 24-hour operations across the nation. The eight suspects were apprehended due to intelligence-led efforts by the police, and the case is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Additionally, on Sunday, August 16, 2026, a suspect was arrested for the illegal disposal of oil-contaminated sludge along the Ughelli/Iyede Expressway, with the case still under investigation by SCID Asaba. Earlier, on August 17, 2026, a 49-year-old male suspect was apprehended in Anambra State, resulting in the recovery of one gun and 50 live cartridges.

In Kogi State, the police successfully released 12 abducted victims on the same day, and similar updates were reported from the Federal Capital Territory and several other states.
