Police re-arrest eight of 11 suspects who escaped custody in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested eight individuals who had previously escaped custody from an undisclosed location in Ughelli, the report stated. This occurred as part of the force's 24-hour operational successes, according to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu. The eight arrests were a result of intelligence-led efforts by the security operatives, and the case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, another suspect was apprehended in connection with the illegal disposal of oil-contaminated sludge along the Ughelli/Iyede Expressway, with the case also being investigated by SCID Asaba. Additionally, in Anambra State, a 49-year-old male was arrested on August 17, 2026, after being informed by credible intelligence.

He was found in possession of a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges, and the investigation is ongoing at SCID Awka. In Kogi State, the police were able to secure the release of 12 abducted victims who were reunited with their families on the same day. The FPRO also reported successful operations in the Federal Capital Territory and several other states.
