Obi demands credible 2027 polls, urges Nigerians to reject violent politicians

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has called for a peaceful and issue-driven campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the National Peace Accord signing ceremony, Obi expressed concerns over election-related deaths and urged Nigerians to ensure no citizen dies due to electoral contests.

He emphasized that candidates should set an example through their conduct, regardless of signing peaceful agreements. Obi stressed that political leaders cannot demand to be addressed as "His Excellency" while lacking excellence in their conduct. He also called for remembrance and proper commemoration of those who died during the recent Osun State governorship election, warning that election-related violence should not become an accepted feature of Nigeria's democracy.
