Next 15 years of Petroleum Commission must focus on transformation – John Jinapor

Ghana's Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has urged the Petroleum Commission to prioritize transformation over the next 15 years as the country aims to maximize the benefits of its petroleum resources and prepare for the global energy transition. Addressing the launch of the Commission's 15th anniversary celebrations, Jinapor noted that the regulator has achieved significant progress in establishing a robust framework for Ghana's upstream petroleum industry since its establishment in 2011.

He emphasized that the Commission's role will become increasingly crucial as Ghana seeks to attract investment, boost oil and gas production, deepen local participation, and ensure that petroleum resources contribute to industrialization and energy security. "The initial fifteen years of the Petroleum Commission focused on establishing the regulator and constructing institutional foundations.

The subsequent fifteen years must concentrate on transformation," stated Jinapor. He further highlighted that Ghana must leverage the revenues, infrastructure, technology, and human capital derived from petroleum to support the shift towards a more diversified and sustainable energy economy. "We will harness the value of our petroleum resources responsibly while utilizing the revenues, infrastructure, technology, and human capital they generate to foster a more diversified and sustainable energy economy," Jinapor concluded.
