In the Gaza Strip, six people reportedly died in an Israeli attack on the evening of October 15, 2025. Israel's army stated that several leaders of the Islamist terrorist group Hamas were targeted in the Al-Shati quarter of Gaza City, as they allegedly planned attacks on Israeli soldiers in the coastal region. The hospital in charge of the victims informed that there were also several injured.

However, the identities of the deceased and injured were not immediately disclosed. Palestinian sources claimed that Israel's army mistakenly struck a café near the port in Gaza City, in the northern part of the territory, which Israel's army confirmed only upon request. Both sides' claims could not be independently verified. Since a ceasefire was declared in the Gaza War in October 2025, there have been repeated deadly attacks.

According to local media reports, Israel had refrained from targeted attacks on Hamas members in Gaza until recently, under pressure from the United States. U.S. negotiator Jared Kushner was recently in the region to negotiate a compromise on a Gaza plan that calls for the surrender of Hamas weapons and an end to all combat operations in the Gaza War.

He met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who so far has rejected the U.S.-backed plan. Disagreements include whether weapons surrendered to Hamas should remain under Palestinian control or be completely removed from the coastal strip, as Israel fears they could fall back into Hamas hands. A senior Israeli government official recently stated that Israel would continue to exercise its "operational freedom" in targeting Hamas in the coastal strip, referring to both immediate threats to its forces and the "elimination" of terrorists involved in the October 7, 2023 massacre in the Israeli border area.
